Worldwide arid landscapes may seem lifeless, but nothing could be further from the truth.  These dry places are not only very much alive, but may also hold the key to future food sources.

The plants and animals that have learned to survive in harsh conditions make use of what little water they can find and avoid the scorching rays of the relentless sun.  The American prairies once appeared as desolate deserts, but over time, rainwater and nutrients have gradually penetrated the hard surfaces of these lands and today we know that even the hooves of the mighty buffalo helped create the rich soils that would one day become home to the American farmers.

December Nights in San Diego

 While the northern part of the United States celebrates the holidays with snow filled streets, frosty feet and sugarplum treats, we in the southern states get to enjoy mostly sunny beaches and tiny, paper umbrella- topped, drinks at our favorite outdoor cafes.

For many of us who have migrated from cold places to the south, we still look forward to having our yearly, ornamented, pine scented trees (in our air conditioned surroundings of course) that remind us of the cold weather, we happily left behind.

Sailing Away on Biscayne Bay

Marguerite & Gian CarloWhen we first moved to Miami, we would go to the beach a few times a week.  Sailing, snorkeling and diving several times a month.  Now that we’ve made this peninsula our home, we never get to the ocean. Too much to do and not enough time.  Recently Sail Laser in Coconut Grove invited people to stop by and get to know the sailing facility. As their brochure reads, no hassles, no rigging or de-rigging, no insurance, no expensive repairs, no time-consuming maintenance, no cleaning!  Perfect.
